Her melodies and lyrics exquisitely blend east, west, timeliness and timelessness.
Through her dancing, Era developed an outstanding musicality and a formidable command of the stage.

A Very quickly, it became clear that this was a singer with something to say.

Era’s international adventures have endowed her with a unique, expansive, characteristically modern perspective that infuses each of her songs. Neither here nor there, they are somehow all places – exactly wherever you are.

Toronto chanteuse Era Chorna conjures the sound and feel of a smoky, mid-20th-century jazz club just by opening her mouth. There is something truly seductive about her flexible, raw-silk vocals graced by a hint of vibrato. Her second album contains 11 standards that don’t stray far from the tried-and-true — but they don’t have to when they’re sung with so much conviction. We get especially solid renditions of “Slow Boat to China,” “I Love to Dance With You” and “Too Much in Love to Care,” from Sunset Boulevard. Chorna gets fine backup from a quartet of Toronto’s finest: Pat La Barbera on sax, Duncan Hopkins on bass and Terry Clarke on percussion, all led by pianist/producer Bill King. The album does not list a single songwriter or arranger credit.
